What Happens If Eosinophil Count is High?

The question, What happens if eosinphil count is high? may seem daunting. But there are many causes for eosinophilia. For example, eosinophilic esophagitis, a disease of the oesophagus, is often accompanied by a high eosinophil count. You can help your body maintain a normal eosinophil level by avoiding food that triggers your symptoms.

An elevated eosinophil count is a sign that your body’s immune system has mounted an attack on an infection. Normally, your blood is full of white blood cells. But when they are in large numbers, they can cause tissue damage. In addition to damaging tissue, eosinophils also produce toxic substances that can kill pathogens or stimulate inflammation. In fact, a high eosinophil count is a sign of a more serious underlying condition.

In order to determine if eosinophilia is the cause of your symptoms, your healthcare provider will conduct a blood test. If the results are abnormal, they may order additional tests to diagnose the underlying cause. If you have a medical condition that causes a high eosinophil level, your healthcare provider will probably prescribe antibiotics or corticosteroids.

The most common cause of eosinophilia is a specific type of infection. Eosinophilic esophagitis affects the esophagus, stomach, and colon. In addition, eosinophilic granulomatosis, also known as Churg-Strauss syndrome, affects the heart, lungs, and sinuses. Finally, hypereosinophilic syndrome affects the central nervous system and the skin.

High eosinophil levels may indicate an underlying medical condition, such as autoimmune disease. However, high eosinophil levels can also be indicative of a mild or moderate inflammatory disorder. If your doctor finds that your eosinophil count is high, they will likely order other tests to determine the cause. Aside from food allergies, eosinophilia may also be caused by COVID, a type of cancer that affects the immune system.

A recent study of 7180 COPD patients found that the presence of a high blood eosinophil count was associated with an increased risk of pneumonia. However, these associations were not strong in all individuals in this group. However, patients with high eosinophil counts may be eligible for ICS therapy, which has the potential to elevate pneumonia risk. It is important to note that COPD patients who have a high eosinophil count may be a candidate for ICS treatment.
